During
their early years, children normally develop in five basic skill areas:
communication
(using
and understanding language)
gross
and fine motor
(physical
skills, such as walking and handling objects)
cognitive
(intellectual
ability; problem-solving)
social
and emotional
(dealing
with others; handling and expressing their own emotions)
adaptive
(self-help
skills, such as feeding and dressing)
Children are evaluated in the above five developmental areas.
Only State approved evaluators under contract with Nassau, Suffolk and
New York City can determine eligibility.
Our agency has some of the area's most experienced and respected
diagnosticians. Experts at diagnosing and ruling out Autism
Spectrum Disorder (ASD), they use the most current testing procedures,
informal observation, and clinical judgment, and take the time to make
sure they have a complete picture of your child.
Accurately diagnosing these conditions is a complex and delicate task
requirement special training and sensitivity.
If you think that your infant, toddler or preschooler is not
developing normally in any of these areas or you suspect symptoms related
to ASD, you have a right to a
professional evaluation and, if needed, treatment at no out-of-pocket
